A strange little side quest
There is a neat bit of history hiding behind the kind of play you find in Soccer Shooters. The first penalty shoot-out in World Cup history came in the 1982 semi-final between West Germany and France. There is another connection worth keeping in the same mental pocket: Archery was already on the Olympic programme in 1900, boxing joined the modern Games in 1904, and basketball became a medal sport in 1936. It is a good reminder that simple game mechanics can carry a surprising amount of history.
