A strange little side quest
One reason simulation games keeps producing good game ideas around Scooby Doo Snack Machine is that its history is full of strange turns. SimCity grew out of Will Wright's enjoyment of the map editor he had built for an earlier game; the act of shaping a city became the game itself. The surprising part is how quickly the next milestone followed. Spacewar! appeared on MIT's PDP-1 in 1962 and became one of the earliest influential computer games shared among programmers. Not bad for a few facts hiding behind a Play button.
