Zoom out from Save the Monsters for a moment and the timeline gets surprisingly deep. Archery first appeared at the Olympic Games in 1900 and returned permanently to the programme in 1972 after a long absence. A second detail makes the picture even better: Pac-Man went on sale in 1980, and its creator Toru Iwatani famously linked the character's shape to a pizza with a slice missing. That gives Save the Monsters a little more company than it first appears to have.
