A strange little side quest
Santa's Footy Challenge has plenty of company in a long tradition of players chasing timing, patterns and better decisions. The first penalty shoot-out in World Cup history came in the 1982 semi-final between West Germany and France. That old idea kept changing rather than disappearing. Basketball became an Olympic medal sport in 1936, while women’s basketball joined the Olympic programme in 1976. It is a good reminder that simple game mechanics can carry a surprising amount of history.
