A strange little side quest
Romantic Gondola Ride belongs to a much longer story of play than a browser tab might suggest. M.U.L.E. arrived in 1983 with multiplayer competition built around gathering resources and keeping a colony alive, an early example of resource-driven strategy play. It also connects to a different milestone: Barbie Fashion Designer became a major software hit in 1996, selling more than 500,000 copies in two months and proving there was a large audience for fashion-focused computer play.
