A strange little side quest
Rolling Balls may feel immediate, but the ideas around puzzles have been evolving for a very long time. Arthur Wynne published a diamond-shaped 'Word-Cross' in the New York World on December 21, 1913; the name later shifted to 'Cross-Word' and then 'crossword'. And then there is this: Women competed in Olympic archery as early as 1904, making it one of the early Olympic sports to include women. That gives Rolling Balls a little more company than it first appears to have.
