A strange little side quest
Even a quick game like Tricky Crab sits on top of decades — and sometimes centuries — of ideas. Donkey Kong arrived in 1981 with a character called Jumpman, who would later become one of gaming's most recognizable figures: Mario. Another piece of context lands nicely beside it: Archery first appeared at the Olympic Games in 1900 and returned permanently to the programme in 1972 after a long absence. That long chain of experiments is part of why platform games still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
