A strange little side quest
The fun part of looking behind Poppy 4: Cut Monsters with Sword in Arena is seeing how many older ideas are still alive in modern play. Arthur Wynne published a diamond-shaped 'Word-Cross' in the New York World on December 21, 1913; the name later shifted to 'Cross-Word' and then 'crossword'. It also connects to a different milestone: Women competed in Olympic archery as early as 1904, making it one of the early Olympic sports to include women. It is a good reminder that simple game mechanics can carry a surprising amount of history.
