A strange little side quest
Put Paint Strike next to the history of action games and a few unexpected connections appear. Space Invaders arrived in 1978 and helped turn electronic games from an arcade curiosity into mainstream entertainment. There is another connection worth keeping in the same mental pocket: Archery first appeared at the Olympic Games in 1900 and returned permanently to the programme in 1972 after a long absence. That gives Paint Strike a little more company than it first appears to have.
