A strange little side quest
The next time Oopps! No Brakes! asks for one more try, remember that game ideas rarely appear from nowhere. Atari's Gran Trak 10 from 1974 is recognized as the first arcade racing video game, decades before modern 3D racers. A second detail makes the picture even better: Archery first appeared at the Olympic Games in 1900 and returned permanently to the programme in 1972 after a long absence. It is a good reminder that simple game mechanics can carry a surprising amount of history.
