New York Hidden Objects

GROMBI FACT DROPREAL-WORLD TRIVIA

A strange little side quest

The rules may be simple on screen, but the backstory around New York Hidden Objects is anything but tiny. Arthur Wynne published a diamond-shaped 'Word-Cross' in the New York World on December 21, 1913; the name later shifted to 'Cross-Word' and then 'crossword'. A second detail makes the picture even better: Archery first appeared at the Olympic Games in 1900 and returned permanently to the programme in 1972 after a long absence. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
