A strange little side quest
Before the next round of Move and Match, here is a piece of the bigger picture. Alexey Pajitnov created Tetris in 1984 after drawing inspiration from pentomino puzzles, then simplified the idea around shapes made from four squares. A second detail makes the picture even better: A major archery competition held at Finsbury in England in 1583 drew about 3,000 participants. It is a good reminder that simple game mechanics can carry a surprising amount of history.
