A strange little side quest
The fun part of looking behind Mathimals is seeing how many older ideas are still alive in modern play. The Oregon Trail began in 1971 when three student teachers created a computer simulation to help Minnesota schoolchildren learn American history. The surprising part is how quickly the next milestone followed. Street Fighter II, released in 1991, turned head-to-head arcade fighting into a worldwide phenomenon and helped define the modern fighting-game genre.
