A strange little side quest
Even a quick game like Manamancers sits on top of decades — and sometimes centuries — of ideas. Alexey Pajitnov created Tetris in 1984 after drawing inspiration from pentomino puzzles, then simplified the idea around shapes made from four squares. It also connects to a different milestone: Games resembling checkers were being played thousands of years ago; evidence of related games reaches back to around 1600 BC. That is the kind of background detail that makes another attempt at Manamancers feel a bit more connected to the history of play.
