Here is a rabbit hole for the next loading screen in LoucoLandia: Sonic the Hedgehog launched in 1991 and turned speed itself into a defining platform-game mechanic. The same trail leads to another fact: A major archery competition held at Finsbury in England in 1583 drew about 3,000 participants. The screen is modern; the urge to test skill, pattern and timing definitely is not.
