A strange little side quest
The fun part of looking behind Knitting is seeing how many older ideas are still alive in modern play. The Oregon Trail began in 1971 when three student teachers created a computer simulation to help Minnesota schoolchildren learn American history. That is only half the story. Spacewar! appeared on MIT's PDP-1 in 1962 and became one of the earliest influential computer games shared among programmers. That is the kind of background detail that makes another attempt at Knitting feel a bit more connected to the history of play.
