The rules may be simple on screen, but the backstory around Knife Party! is anything but tiny. Sonic the Hedgehog launched in 1991 and turned speed itself into a defining platform-game mechanic. And the history keeps stacking up: Boxing was part of the ancient Olympic Games by 688 BC, long before gloves, weight classes, or timed rounds existed in anything like their modern form. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
