A strange little side quest
Even a quick game like Jungle King sits on top of decades — and sometimes centuries — of ideas. Atari's Gran Trak 10 from 1974 is recognized as the first arcade racing video game, decades before modern 3D racers. There is another connection worth keeping in the same mental pocket: By 1987, fantasy role-playing had become a major computer-game direction, with Zelda, licensed Dungeons & Dragons games and other story-led adventures expanding the form. That is the kind of background detail that makes another attempt at Jungle King feel a bit more connected to the history of play.
