A strange little side quest
Before the next round of Jigsaw Puzzles, here is a piece of the bigger picture. Alexey Pajitnov created Tetris in 1984 after drawing inspiration from pentomino puzzles, then simplified the idea around shapes made from four squares. A second detail makes the picture even better: Archery first appeared at the Olympic Games in 1900 and returned permanently to the programme in 1972 after a long absence. That is the kind of background detail that makes another attempt at Jigsaw Puzzles feel a bit more connected to the history of play.
