A strange little side quest
Invasion has plenty of company in a long tradition of players chasing timing, patterns and better decisions. Chess changed dramatically in Europe during the 15th and 16th centuries when the queen became the board's most powerful piece. A second detail makes the picture even better: Spacewar! appeared on MIT's PDP-1 in 1962 and became one of the earliest influential computer games shared among programmers. That is the kind of background detail that makes another attempt at Invasion feel a bit more connected to the history of play.
