A strange little side quest
i'm Sorry: A Valentine's Day Puzzle has plenty of company in a long tradition of players chasing timing, patterns and better decisions. Arthur Wynne published a diamond-shaped 'Word-Cross' in the New York World on December 21, 1913; the name later shifted to 'Cross-Word' and then 'crossword'. That is only half the story. Archery first appeared at the Olympic Games in 1900 and returned permanently to the programme in 1972 after a long absence. The details change, but the appeal of learning a system and trying again is remarkably persistent.
