A strange little side quest
One reason food history keeps producing good game ideas around How to Bake a Chocolate Cake is that its history is full of strange turns. Nancy Johnson patented a hand-cranked ice-cream freezer in 1843 that used an inner churning chamber surrounded by ice. The broader history adds one more wrinkle. During much of the 19th century in the United States, visibly painted cosmetics became socially unacceptable even though beauty practices never disappeared. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
