A strange little side quest
High School Cheerleader Contest has plenty of company in a long tradition of players chasing timing, patterns and better decisions. During much of the 19th century in the United States, visibly painted cosmetics became socially unacceptable even though beauty practices never disappeared. And the history keeps stacking up: Nintendo's Donkey Kong arrived in 1981 and introduced the character first known as Jumpman, who later became Mario. That long chain of experiments is part of why fashion and style still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
