A strange little side quest
Put Hexa Dungeon next to the history of combat sports and a few unexpected connections appear. Boxing entered the modern Olympic Games in 1904 at St. Louis. That is only half the story. By 1987, fantasy role-playing had become a major computer-game direction, with Zelda, licensed Dungeons & Dragons games and other story-led adventures expanding the form. It is a good reminder that simple game mechanics can carry a surprising amount of history.
