Aqua Slug has plenty of company in a long tradition of players chasing timing, patterns and better decisions. The penalty kick entered football's laws in 1891 and was nicknamed the 'kick of death' in its early days. The broader history adds one more wrinkle. By 1987, fantasy role-playing had become a major computer-game direction, with Zelda, licensed Dungeons & Dragons games and other story-led adventures expanding the form. That is the kind of background detail that makes another attempt at Aqua Slug feel a bit more connected to the history of play.
