A strange little side quest
There is a neat bit of history hiding behind the kind of play you find in Funny Tennis Physics. Donkey Kong arrived in 1981 with a character called Jumpman, who would later become one of gaming's most recognizable figures: Mario. That is only half the story. Archery was already on the Olympic programme in 1900, boxing joined the modern Games in 1904, and basketball became a medal sport in 1936. That long chain of experiments is part of why platform games still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
