A strange little side quest
There is a neat bit of history hiding behind the kind of play you find in Billiard Blitz: Snooker Star. The word 'checkmate' is linked to the Persian expression 'shah mat', used when the king was trapped. The same trail leads to another fact: Archery was already on the Olympic programme in 1900, boxing joined the modern Games in 1904, and basketball became a medal sport in 1936. That long chain of experiments is part of why strategy games still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
