A strange little side quest
The rules may be simple on screen, but the backstory around Fast Typing: Word Rush is anything but tiny. Arthur Wynne published a diamond-shaped 'Word-Cross' in the New York World on December 21, 1913; the name later shifted to 'Cross-Word' and then 'crossword'. That is only half the story. Reader Rabbit's 1986 arrival was part of a major expansion of educational computer software before the CD-ROM boom of the 1990s. That gives Fast Typing: Word Rush a little more company than it first appears to have.
