A strange little side quest
Put Family Simulator Beach next to the history of simulation games and a few unexpected connections appear. SimCity grew out of Will Wright's enjoyment of the map editor he had built for an earlier game; the act of shaping a city became the game itself. The same trail leads to another fact: Spacewar! appeared on MIT's PDP-1 in 1962 and became one of the earliest influential computer games shared among programmers. So a round of Family Simulator Beach is not just a quick distraction; it is a tiny stop on a much longer simulation games timeline.
