A strange little side quest
The rules may be simple on screen, but the backstory around Drop Jewel is anything but tiny. Alexey Pajitnov created Tetris in 1984 after drawing inspiration from pentomino puzzles, then simplified the idea around shapes made from four squares. Another piece of context lands nicely beside it: In 1958, Tennis for Two used an analog computer and an oscilloscope to turn simple physics into a playable tennis-like demonstration. That long chain of experiments is part of why puzzles still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
