A strange little side quest
The rules may be simple on screen, but the backstory around Daily Net is anything but tiny. The name Tetris combines a reference to four-square pieces with Pajitnov's interest in tennis. Another piece of context lands nicely beside it: Spacewar! appeared on MIT's PDP-1 in 1962 and became one of the earliest influential computer games shared among programmers. That long chain of experiments is part of why puzzles still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
