A strange little side quest
Dora Shop may feel immediate, but the ideas around simulation games have been evolving for a very long time. M.U.L.E. arrived in 1983 with multiplayer competition built around gathering resources and keeping a colony alive, an early example of resource-driven strategy play. That old idea kept changing rather than disappearing. The Oregon Trail began in 1971 when three student teachers created a computer simulation to help Minnesota schoolchildren learn American history. That is the kind of background detail that makes another attempt at Dora Shop feel a bit more connected to the history of play.
