A strange little side quest
Put Dora Bubbleshooter next to the history of action games and a few unexpected connections appear. Space Invaders arrived in 1978 and helped turn electronic games from an arcade curiosity into mainstream entertainment. And the history keeps stacking up: The Oregon Trail began in 1971 when three student teachers created a computer simulation to help Minnesota schoolchildren learn American history. The screen is modern; the urge to test skill, pattern and timing definitely is not.
