Defend the Workshop

GROMBI FACT DROPREAL-WORLD TRIVIA

A strange little side quest

Defend the Workshop may feel immediate, but the ideas around simulation games have been evolving for a very long time. M.U.L.E. arrived in 1983 with multiplayer competition built around gathering resources and keeping a colony alive, an early example of resource-driven strategy play. Another piece of context lands nicely beside it: Modern chess traces back to the Indian game chaturanga, recorded around the sixth century and built around pieces representing parts of an army. That long chain of experiments is part of why simulation games still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
