Battleships belongs to a much longer story of play than a browser tab might suggest. A major archery competition held at Finsbury in England in 1583 drew about 3,000 participants. And then there is this: Games resembling checkers were being played thousands of years ago; evidence of related games reaches back to around 1600 BC. Not bad for a few facts hiding behind a Play button.
