A strange little side quest
Before the next round of Cuti's Diner, here is a piece of the bigger picture. Tomatoes helped turn Naples' flatbreads into the food we recognize as pizza, which had become an important food for poorer Neapolitans by the 18th century. There is another connection worth keeping in the same mental pocket: In 18th-century America, upper-class men as well as women wore make-up, a reminder that beauty customs have never been as fixed as they can seem. That long chain of experiments is part of why food history still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
