The rules may be simple on screen, but the backstory around Secret Makeout is anything but tiny. In 18th-century America, upper-class men as well as women wore make-up, a reminder that beauty customs have never been as fixed as they can seem. Another piece of context lands nicely beside it: Pong was field-tested in California bars in 1972 and helped launch the modern arcade-game era. That gives Secret Makeout a little more company than it first appears to have.
