A strange little side quest
Even a quick game like CubIO: Claim the Land sits on top of decades — and sometimes centuries — of ideas. Space Invaders, released in 1978, helped push video games into mainstream popular culture. There is another connection worth keeping in the same mental pocket: Arthur Wynne published a diamond-shaped 'Word-Cross' in the New York World on December 21, 1913; the name later shifted to 'Cross-Word' and then 'crossword'. That is the kind of background detail that makes another attempt at CubIO: Claim the Land feel a bit more connected to the history of play.
