A strange little side quest
The rules may be simple on screen, but the backstory around Cooking Shawarma Idle is anything but tiny. Games resembling checkers were being played thousands of years ago; evidence of related games reaches back to around 1600 BC. A second detail makes the picture even better: SimCity grew out of Will Wright's enjoyment of the map editor he had built for an earlier game; the act of shaping a city became the game itself. That gives Cooking Shawarma Idle a little more company than it first appears to have.
