A strange little side quest
The rules may be simple on screen, but the backstory around Colorless Ruins is anything but tiny. The name Tetris combines a reference to four-square pieces with Pajitnov's interest in tennis. That old idea kept changing rather than disappearing. Pac-Man went on sale in 1980, and its creator Toru Iwatani famously linked the character's shape to a pizza with a slice missing. That is the kind of background detail that makes another attempt at Colorless Ruins feel a bit more connected to the history of play.
