The fun part of looking behind Coaster Racer is seeing how many older ideas are still alive in modern play. A top Formula 1 tyre stop can happen in under two seconds; McLaren set a 1.80-second pit-stop record. And the history keeps stacking up: Pac-Man went on sale in 1980, and its creator Toru Iwatani famously linked the character's shape to a pizza with a slice missing. The screen is modern; the urge to test skill, pattern and timing definitely is not.
