A strange little side quest
Bubblez! may feel immediate, but the ideas around arcade history have been evolving for a very long time. Atari's Gran Trak 10 from 1974 is recognized as the first arcade racing video game. The surprising part is how quickly the next milestone followed. Street Fighter II, released in 1991, turned head-to-head arcade fighting into a worldwide phenomenon and helped define the modern fighting-game genre. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
