Put Sling Puck Arena next to the history of archery and a few unexpected connections appear. Archery first appeared at the Olympic Games in 1900 and returned permanently to the programme in 1972 after a long absence. That is only half the story. Pac-Man went on sale in 1980, and its creator Toru Iwatani famously linked the character's shape to a pizza with a slice missing. The screen is modern; the urge to test skill, pattern and timing definitely is not.
