A strange little side quest
The fun part of looking behind Bob L Boyle's Simple Soups is seeing how many older ideas are still alive in modern play. Cone-shaped wafers with cream were described in print before 1900, but the ice-cream cone became a major American fairground hit at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. It also connects to a different milestone: In 1958, Tennis for Two used an analog computer and an oscilloscope to turn simple physics into a playable tennis-like demonstration. That long chain of experiments is part of why food history still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
