A strange little side quest
One reason strategy games keeps producing good game ideas around Astro Pong is that its history is full of strange turns. Modern chess traces back to the Indian game chaturanga, recorded around the sixth century and built around pieces representing parts of an army. That old idea kept changing rather than disappearing. In 1958, Tennis for Two used an analog computer and an oscilloscope to turn simple physics into a playable tennis-like demonstration. It is a good reminder that simple game mechanics can carry a surprising amount of history.
