A strange little side quest
Before the next round of Multiplayer Tic Tac Toe, here is a piece of the bigger picture. The first crossword puzzle book appeared in 1924 in a cautious initial printing of 3,600 copies, complete with a free pencil. The surprising part is how quickly the next milestone followed. Nintendo's Donkey Kong arrived in 1981 and introduced the character first known as Jumpman, who later became Mario. That long chain of experiments is part of why puzzles still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
