A strange little side quest
Apple & Onion Style Maker has plenty of company in a long tradition of players chasing timing, patterns and better decisions. Spacewar! appeared on MIT's PDP-1 in 1962 and became one of the earliest influential computer games shared among programmers. And the history keeps stacking up: In 1958, Tennis for Two used an analog computer and an oscilloscope to turn simple physics into a playable tennis-like demonstration. That gives Apple & Onion Style Maker a little more company than it first appears to have.
