A strange little side quest
There is a neat bit of history hiding behind the kind of play you find in Adventures of Two Kittens. Arthur Wynne published a diamond-shaped 'Word-Cross' in the New York World on December 21, 1913; the name later shifted to 'Cross-Word' and then 'crossword'. Another piece of context lands nicely beside it: Early computer role-playing games helped turn rules, inventories, exploration and character progression into systems that could support long-form digital adventures. Not bad for a few facts hiding behind a Play button.
