A strange little side quest
The fun part of looking behind Your Obby Labyrinth is seeing how many older ideas are still alive in modern play. The name Tetris combines a reference to four-square pieces with Pajitnov's interest in tennis. The same trail leads to another fact: By 1987, fantasy role-playing had become a major computer-game direction, with Zelda, licensed Dungeons & Dragons games and other story-led adventures expanding the form. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
