A strange little side quest
Warp Runner may feel immediate, but the ideas around platform games have been evolving for a very long time. Donkey Kong arrived in 1981 with a character called Jumpman, who would later become one of gaming's most recognizable figures: Mario. There is another connection worth keeping in the same mental pocket: Silverstone hosted the first Formula 1 World Championship round on May 13, 1950. It is a good reminder that simple game mechanics can carry a surprising amount of history.
